Former Karnataka BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel is upset at the externment notices served to dozens of people. But, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police C.B. Ryshyanth claims that those facing action are all rowdy sheeters. “The list doesn’t only involve Bajrang Dal workers. It also has Muslims, Christians and others,” he said.

BENGALURU — Dozens of people, including many Bajrang Dal workers, face banishment from Dakshina Kannada region in Karnataka. Externment notices have been served to these individuals as several criminal cases have been registered against them. The charges against them include their alleged role in communal rioting, moral policing and attempts to murder.
The names of the alleged criminals have been referred to the Dakshina Kannada’s Executive Magistrate recommending their removal from the area, media reports said on Friday.
However, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief in the state and Lok Sabha MP from Dakshina Kannada, Nalin Kumar Kateel, has strongly criticised the administration’s move, a report in India Today said.
The lawmaker vowed to prevent any of these individuals from being banished from the Dakshina Kannada region at any cost. He said that “hate politics” was going on in Karnataka.
“The notice has been sent to ban our karyakartas (workers) from the Dakshina Kannada region. They don’t have even one case against them. We condemn this. We will not allow it to happen. We will take the officers to task,” he said.
But, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police C.B. Ryshyanth has claimed that those facing action are all rowdy sheeters. “The list doesn’t only involve Bajrang Dal workers. It also has Muslims, Christians and others. All of them are rowdy sheeters who have criminal cases pending against them. They are involved in communal riots and attempts to murder,” he was quoted as saying.
The accused persons will be called by the police for questioning, following which a final call on the duration of their banishment will be taken.
“This isn’t about any religion. None of them are innocent. They are all criminals,” the report cited Ryshyanth as saying.
