BENGALURU — Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is quite confident of the Congress party winning at the Assembly polls in 5 states where elections concluded on Friday as people were ‘disillusioned’ with Modi’s rule.
There was ‘definitely’ a perception of regime change at the Centre in view of “incredible disillusionment” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not delivering on his promises, claimed Shashi Tharoor.
“There definitely is a perception of regime change at the centre…. There is incredible disillusionment against Modi.
“Many also have reacted to communal violence and cow vigilantism, saying that this is not we have voted for. They expected Modi to deliver on his promises, which he has failed in almost all of them,” the Congress MP told PTI.
Shashi Tharoor was in Bengaluru on Friday where he had to read out excerpts from his book titled “Paradoxical Prime Minister.
“There definitely is a perception of regime change at the centre…. There is incredible disillusionment against Modi.”
Tharoor also said he did not agree with the ‘violent protests’ held by the BJP in Kerala over the Sabarimala issue.”We have to respect the Constitution and rule of law,” he added.
On the row over Aljo K Joseph appearing for Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in the Augusta Westland chopper scam, he said his expulsion from the youth Congress clearly indicated that the party did not endorse his action.
“The immediate decision to expel Joseph from the party is a clear indication that the Congress did not endorse his appearing for Michel,” Tharoor said.
Tharoor gets lifetime achievement award
Shashi Tharoor, who is at the peak of his literary career, got Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday for his stellar contribution to literature.
Crossword Book Award who introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, announced on Saturday that its jury has unanimously nominated Shashi Tharoor for the prestigious award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award has been conferred in the past upon the stalwart, Ruskin Bond, by Gulzar. In 2017, Sudha Murty was conferred the award by leading cardiac surgeon Dr Ramakanta Panda.
Tharoor is a bestselling author of 18 books and has a proven track-record of producing literary works, both in fiction and non fiction, that have lasting relevance, according to reports.
