NEW DELHI – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been censured for making a intemperate and provocative remarks against AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Telangana alluding to elimination of Muslims. Sarma said the Nizam of Hyderabad and Owaisi would be written off from the state.

“The way Article 370 was scrapped, Ram Mandir’s construction began… here also Nizam’s name, Owaisi’s name will be written off… that day is not very far,” said Sarma.

He further said, “The history of India says that Babur, Aurangzeb, and Nizam cannot live long. I am sure that the legacy of Nizam will come to a complete halt and a new culture based on Indian civilization will emerge”.

The statement has drawn condemnation and severe criticism on the social media with some describing his remarks as a call for genocide against Muslims.

Hyderabad MP Owaisi compared Sarma’s statement to the genocide calls made at Haridwar Dhram Sansad.

Reacting to it, journalist Abhinandan Sekhri said that the more vile and hateful a politician, the better chances he has to get elected as Chief Minister.

Activist Safoora Zargar said that Assam Chief Minister Sarma wants an India without Muslim, which is an open call for genocide against the minority community. She also asked the international community to take note of genocide calls against Indian Muslims.

Author Mini Nair called Sarma as “insecure leader” who is flailing his arms and displaying his Islamobhobic agenda.

Slamming Assam CM for his remarks, Nizamabad MLC and TRS leader Kavitha Kalvakuntla said that the remarks of Sarma show the intent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to erase the history of Telangana.
