Arab, Muslim Ministers in Beijing, Seek China’s Help in Ending Gaza War

Date:

BEIJING – The international community must take urgent action to stop the “humanitarian disaster” unfolding in Gaza, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a visiting delegation of diplomats from Arab and Muslim-majority nations.

“Let us work together to quickly cool down the situation in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East as soon as possible,” Wang told foreign ministers in opening remarks in Beijing.

“A humanitarian disaster is unfolding in Gaza,” Wang told the diplomats, which include foreign ministers of the Palestinian Authority, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

“The situation in Gaza affects all countries around the world, questioning the human sense of right and wrong and humanity’s bottom line,” he said.

“The international community must act urgently, taking effective measures to prevent this tragedy from spreading,” Wang added.

China is willing to work to help “restore peace in the Middle East”, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a visiting delegation of diplomats from Arab and Muslim-majority nations.

“Let us work together to quickly cool down the situation in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East as soon as possible,” Wang told foreign ministers in opening remarks in Beijing.

Arab and Muslim ministers have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as their delegation visited Beijing on the first leg of a tour to push for an end to hostilities and to allow humanitarian aid into the territory, Reuters reports.

The delegation, which is set to meet officials representing the permanent members of the UN Security Council, is also piling pressure on the West to reject Israel’s justification of its actions against Palestinians as self-defence.

The officials holding meetings with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi are from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, Palestine and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, among others.

The extraordinary joint Islamic-Arab summit in Riyadh this month also urged the International Criminal Court to investigate “war crimes and crimes against humanity that Israel is committing” in the Palestinian territories.

China fully supports the call for a two-state solution in Gaza by the recent Islamic-Arab summit in Riyadh, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said in a meeting with ministers from Arab and Islamic countries.

He also said the international community must act now and take effective measures to end the humanitarian disaster.

Israeli forces now surrounding Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital

Israeli forces are advancing towards Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital, with witnesses stating that they are engaging in bombardment in the vicinity of the medical facility, according to Al Jazeera report.

“From what we have gathered from witnesses, it looks like the Israeli forces are going to repeat what happened at al-Shifa Hospital. It looks like there will be an attempt to storm the Indonesian Hospital,” the report says.

The generator has also been shut down at the hospital, which is the only one still trying to offer medical services in Gaza City and north of Gaza. _Reuters, Agencies
