LUCKNOW — Samajwadi Party Chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the UP government of Yogi Adityanath on Friday over the poor law and order situation, claiming that a “free hand” given to police is responsible for it.
In an apparent reference to the two girls who were found dead in a field in Unnao, Yadav asked, “Who is responsible for it,” reports PTI.
“When the government gives free hand to police, this is bound to happen. In the state where daughters are not safe, mothers are not safe who will invest there. Cases are being reported continuously from Badaun, Hathras and Unnao. A victim woman was cremated in the night in Hathras,” he said.
Three Dalit girls, aged 16, 15 and 14, were found lying in a field in Unnao by the family members after they did not return till late on Wednesday night.
The girls were taken to a local hospital where the younger two were died. The eldest one was referred to a hospital in Kanpur city.
The bodies of the girls were handed over to their families on Thursday night for cremation. The girls’ viscera have been preserved for further examination, police said.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward event as the cremation of the two girls was scheduled on Friday.
A third girl, who is on ventilator support at a Kanpur hospital, is being treated for suspected poisoning.
The family of the victims on Thursday demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Akhilesh Yadav also charged the government for humiliating all sections of society, including the youth, unemployed and political leaders. He said thousands of SP workers have been framed in fake cases.
Yadav also blamed the government for a large number of custodial deaths and fake encounters taking place in the state. “Ever since this government came to power, fake encounters have started taking place,” he said.
The SP chief said that the UP government has been continuously making claims on investments but these are not visible on the ground.
