For the last some days, people, who have aligned with the Hindutva ideology, have been calling for a boycott of Laal Singh Chaddha on Twitter. They are citing his remarks which he had made in 2015 saying that intolerance has grown in India recently
NEW DELHI – With Hindutva forces again out to target him for his past political remarks at a time when the release of his film Laal Singh Chaddha is due, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is worried over the fate of the movie. The Hindutva hardliners are now running a Twitter trend #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha.
Reacting to the political situation in 2015, Aamir Khan had said that ‘intolerance has grown in India recently’. This had offended some Hindutva groups who created a storm over his remark.
Speaking on the #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha trend on Twitter Aamir Khan expressed his remorse on the development and said that he is feeling sad that his image has been misconstrued by some vested interests which is against truth.
The movie is all set to release on 11 August. Recently, he has issued a statement on the campaign against the film expressing his sadness over the development.
“That Boycott Bollywood… Boycott Aamir Khan… Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha… I feel sad also because a lot of people who are saying this in their hearts believe I am someone who doesn’t like India… In their hearts they believe that… And that’s quite untrue.”
The actor added, “I really love the country… That’s how I am. It is rather unfortunate if some people feel that way.”
Asking his fans and the audience to give his film a fair chance, Aamir Khan told PTI: “I want to assure everyone that it’s not the case so please don’t boycott my films, please watch my films.”
For the last some days, people, who have aligned with the Hindutva ideology, have been calling for a boycott of Laal Singh Chaddha on Twitter. They are citing his remarks which he had made in 2015 saying that intolerance has grown in India recently. His then wife Kiran Rao had suggested that they should think about moving out of the country due to such an atmosphere.
At that time, Hindutva groups had targeted Khan for his statements.
They are also targeting Khan for meeting with the wife of Turkish President Racep Tayib Erdogan. In 2020, Khan met Turkey’s first lady Emine Erdogna ahead of shooting his film Laal Singh Chaddha in the country.
They are now running a Twitter trend #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha.
BJP MLA Prag Shah also gave a call to boycott against Khan’s movie over his intolerance remark.
“What a pitiable state we are in that #AamirKhan has to clarify: “I really love the country.” tweeted author Anna Vetticad.
