BHOPAL — Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Union Minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday said in a statement that she would not be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, or any other elections for the next year-and-a-half, as she would like to spend time concentrating on issues such as building of a Ram Temple in UP’s Ayodhya and the cleanliness of river Ganga.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, an MP from Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, has already declared she would not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

While Sushma Swaraj, a senior BJP leaders has made up her mind to take retirement from active politics and enjoy family life, Uma Bharti is taking a break for one-and-a-half year to concentrate on Hindutva issues with full concentration.

Uma Bharti, the most visible faces of the Hindu organisations, told the media that although she had decided not to contest the parliamentary elections, she was not taking ‘sanyas’ from active politics yet.

“I’ll start work for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and for the cause of holy Ganga from January 1,” she said.

Uma Bharti now represents Jhansi-Lalitpur constituency in Parliament and is the Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation. Prior to that, she was Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

Bharti protesting for a legislative solution to the Ram Temple issue, had earlier said that BJP did not have a patent on the Ram temple, whilst calling for all parties to convene and build the temple on the disputed land in Ayodhya, Hindustan Times reported.
