ROHTAK, HARYANA: Days after the victory of Jat-centred Rashtriya Lok Dal or RLD in the Kairana Lok Sabha by-poll, which is the result of strong unity of Jats, Muslims and other backward communities against BJP, the Jats in Haryana have given a call for unity of Jats and non-Jats against the state BJP government of Manohar Lal Khattar.

The move was announced on Saturday by Yashpal Malik, president of Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS), the umbrella organisation of various Jat organisations across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and New Delhi. While addressing a rally in Rohtak, Yashpal accused the BJP government of not fulfilling the promise regarding Jat reservation.

“From August 15 onwards, we shall not allow any political rally of Chief Minister or any other minister of BJP. Their place of political rallies shall be converted into our protest rally spots. There is a possibility that we resort to this protest even before August 16, in case BJP plans to hold a state-level event. We appeal that the Haryana government must apprise Supreme Court with all the facts and figures pertaining to Jat reservation issue at the earliest,” he said while addressing the gathering.

Meanwhile, from June 15 to August 15, Jat organisations have decided to visit each and every village, block, tehsil and district seeking support from other downtrodden sections of the society to bring them on a common platform against the state government.

The Jat leader also announced that in the coming months, Jat organisations shall also be campaigning against BJP in poll-bound Rajasthan. He threatened to launch massive stirs against BJP in Haryana’s neighbouring states including Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi before the Lok Sabha 2019 polls, reported The Indian Express.

“We have passed a resolution. If our demands aren’t fulfilled by 15 August, we will stage protest at the same place where Haryana CM or his ministers will hold rally. We will not let the government function,” Yashpal was quoted as saying by the ANI news agency.

Citing the unity of Jats and other communities against BJP in Kairana and Noorpur in Uttar Pradesh, he said: “We will boycott them in upcoming elections & spread the message to other states where elections are to be held. Like Hindu-Muslim came together in Kairana & Noorupur, if Jat & non-Jat people get together, they (BJP) will be wiped off from everywhere,” he said.

In the Kairana by-poll RLD chief and Jat leader Ajit Singh had fielded Begum Tabassum Hasan to take on the BJP candidate and she won the elections as Muslims, Jats and other backward communities vote en masse for her.

A Twitter handle of Jats @WorldJat claims that “The Man who architected the defeat of #BJP Modi Shah RSS in #Kairana is Ch Yashpal Malik.”

After the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riot, which created gulf between Muslims and Jats, the by-poll of Kairana and Noorpur was the first opportunity when the two communities came together leaving the 2013 incident behind and voted against BJP.
