GHAZIABAD  — In a horrific incident, the body of a seven-year-old girl abducted on Saturday afternoon was found on Sunday on the roof of a mosque in Murad Nagar town in Ghaziabad, police said.

The body of the missing girl was found in a gunny bag by a man who reportedly had gone on the roof of the mosque for fresh air after offering morning prayers at 6.30am.

Zahid Beg, father of the monor girl, lodged a complaint with Police that his daughter had gone missing, reportedly suspecting her abduction by a local councillor Haji Aizaz Baig, according to police.

The girl’s father accused the local councilor, Azaaz Baig, of killing his daughter due to political rivalry. The girl’s maternal uncle had contested the civic body elections against Baig, according to senior superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna, reports PTI.

On father’s complaint, the police registered a case against a councillor, Aizaz, and four or five others. No arrest has been made so far.

On Sunday, the police received a call from an unknown person that the girl’s body had been found on the roof of the mosque. The body was covered with a gunny bag.

Prima facie investigation revealed that the girl was strangled to death, according to Police.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem and investigation is on with senior officers supervising the case and keeping a close watch.

“The culprits will be arrested soon,” a police officer said as investigations are on.
