Kharge Seeks Discussion on Pahalgam Terror Attack, Operation Sindoor

Date:

NEW DELHI — Amidst repeated disruptions from the treasury benches, Congress president and the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge onĀ  Monday sought discussion on Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor and the repeated claims made by the US President Donald Trump about having mediated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on the inaugural day of the Monsoon Session, Kharge served a notice under Rule 267 for the discussion on these issues. His speech was continuously interrupted and disrupted by the treasury benches.

The Leader of Opposition pointed out, it has been exactly three months since the Pahalgam terror attack took place on April 22, and nothing is known about the terrorists whether they have been arrested or killed.

He noted that the Congress party along with the entire Opposition had given unconditional support to the government to convey a strong message of unity and boost the morale of the defence forces. He said the government owed it to the nation to tell what happened.

He also referred to the grave intelligence and security failure in Pahalgam admitted to by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha. Besides, he added, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Deputy Chief of Army Staff had made some sensitive revelations about which the government must speak out.

ā€œYou should share with us what happened, we have given you complete and unconditional supportā€, he told the government, while referring to Trump’s repeated claims made 24 times so far that he had intervened and mediated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

He said, this was quite insulting for the country that the US President was making such claims and there was no response from the government.
