NEW DELHI – Some members of the Hindu community participating in Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in the historic city of Hyderabad in Telangana pelted stones at Masjid-e-Jamal Mohammadi in the city’s Madannapet Dhobighat area on Saturday.

According to media reports, some rally participants stopped at a food camp and hurled stones at the mosque’s window cracking its glasses.

Locals immediately informed the police who arrived at the spot and quickly replaced the damaged window panes.

Later on, the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator from the city’s Yakutpura constituency, Jaffer Hussain Meraj, inspected the mosque. He demanded that the police identify the persons and take urgent action against them, media reports said. As a precautionary measure police presence has been increased in the area.

Aside from this isolated incident, the main Hanuman Jayanti procession in the city proceeded peacefully. The rally, commencing at Gowliguda Ram Mandir and concluding at the Hanuman temple in Tadbund, saw participation from over 25,000 devotees, according to media reports. Enhanced security measures were in place, including the deployment of approximately 3,000 police personnel, CCTV surveillance, and drone monitoring. Diversions were implemented to manage traffic flow, and authorities reported minimal disruptions.

In other regions, Hanuman Jayanti celebrations experienced disturbances. In Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, clashes erupted during a procession near a mosque, resulting in 15 injuries and 20 arrests. Similarly, in Sambalpur, Odisha, a rally faced stone-pelting, leading to injuries among police personnel and the imposition of Section 144 to maintain order.

Authorities in Hyderabad, however, reportedly emphasised the importance of maintaining communal harmony and have initiated investigations into the Jeedimetla incident to ensure accountability and prevent future conflicts.
