NEW DELHI – After a prolonged and agonizing two-year wait, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has finally started probing the mysterious disappearance and subsequent murder of eight-year-old Rizwan.

The boy, a resident of Khatela Sarai village in Haryana’s Palwal District, vanished under baffling circumstances from a local mosque on December 23, 2021.

Despite desperate efforts to locate him, Rizwan’s whereabouts remained unknown until a week later when his mutilated body was discovered in the fields of Nagla Ahsanpur village.

Lack of progress in the investigation, compounded by the Haryana Police’s failure to step onto any significant leads, prompted Rizwan’s father, Mushtaq, to seek justice through legal avenues. Frustrated by the lack of accountability, Mushtaq approached the high court, urging a CBI inquiry into the matter.

Responding to Mushtaq’s plea, the high court last month directed the CBI to register an FIR, thereby reigniting hopes for in the grieving family’s quest for justice.

In a recent development, a team from the CBI, under the supervision of SP Navdeep Singh Brar, visited the crime scene and Mushtaq’s residence to gather crucial evidence and records, media reports said.

Inspector Gurtar Singh has been tasked with leading the investigation, delving into the circumstances surrounding Rizwan’s tragic demise.

Speaking to media, Mushtaq expressed his disappointment with the previous investigation conducted by the Haryana Police, lamenting their lack of progress and closure in the case.

Recounting the horrifying details of his son’s death, Mushtaq revealed the extent of the brutality inflicted upon Rizwan, including the revelation that assailants had poured acid on his son’s face and mutilated his body.

Mushtaq’s plea in the high court implicated three individuals, alleging their involvement in the case due to a property dispute. While the medical board analysing the postmortem report could not ascertain the exact cause of Rizwan’s death, circumstantial evidence and negative brain-mapping test results of the suspects have raised suspicions.

The CBI has now registered an FIR under Sections 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), signaling a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for Rizwan and his grieving family.
