NEW DELHI — A woman journalist was jeered and harassed by Hindutva supporters while she was covering their protests against Udaipir murder at Jantar Mantar, in New Delhi on July 9, reports and visuals shared on social media said.

The crowd mobbed journalist Pooja who is associated with a YouTube channel Janhit Awaz and tried to force her to shout ‘Jai Shree Ram’, a Hindu chant that has of late become the war cry of Hindutva brigade. When she refused and reasoned that she was a journalist whose job is to ask questions, they started shouting , “Pooja Khan”.

The protest at Jantar Mantar was organised by Hindu Yuva Sangathan, a Hindu extremist group to protest the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal from Udaipur. Reports said women and children also took part in the protest.

Pooja is said to have asked questions to the protesters on the rationale behind the protests leaving them riled. She asked them questions over the suspension of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national Spokesperson Nupur Sharma, and the alleged links of the BJP with the Udaipur murderers.  In response they intimidated her and harassed her.
