Mounting a scathing attack on the BJP, Congress called the saffron party anti-women and demanded accountability
NEW DELHI — A political controversy has erupted in Mahoba district in the Bundelkhand region of southern Uttar Pradesh after a woman BJP leader and former office-bearer accused the party’s district president of seeking sexual favours in exchange for a post.
Deepali Tiwari, who previously held a position in the party’s women’s wing, made the allegations during a Facebook Live session on Monday. She claimed that district president Mohanlal Kushwaha asked her to engage in a sexual relationship in return for being appointed district vice-president.
The video has since gone viral on social media, drawing strong reactions within political circles.
Mounting a scathing attack on the BJP, Congress called the saffron party anti-women. The party also shared Deepali Tiwari’s video on the social media platform X.
According to the woman, the alleged incident occurred after the formation of a new district team. She said that when she approached Kushwaha seeking a senior role, he made remarks suggesting she should “give something in return” for the position. She further alleged that he asked her to spend a night with him and accompany him on trips to Lucknow and Delhi.
She also accused other local party functionaries of pressuring her. District vice-president Pankaj Tiwari allegedly advised her to accept the proposal, suggesting it could help her secure a higher post. Another party worker, identified as Jaipal, allegedly called her repeatedly at night to coerce her.
The woman further claimed that she was threatened with false cases against her family if she refused to comply.
Kushwaha has denied all allegations, calling them baseless and part of a conspiracy to damage his political image.
Demanding accountability, Congress said that while the ruling party claims to promote women’s respect, incidents like this expose an “anti-women mindset” and accused BJP leaders of hypocrisy.
“Such disgusting thinking and a vile mindset towards women are the hallmark of BJP leaders”, said Congress in its X post.
On one hand, the BJP pretends to uphold respect for women; on the other, its leaders do not hesitate to trample the dignity of women within their own party. The truth is that the BJP’s very DNA is anti-women, where such predators are protected and encouraged. This is their real “conduct, character, and face,” Congress said.
The woman said she plans to file a written complaint with the Superintendent of Police, seeking an investigation and action against those involved.
The BJP has not issued an official statement on the matter so far.
