PATNA — Thousands of farmers, joining the massive demonstrations in several parts of the country, marched to the Raj Bhavan in Patna on Tuesday, calling for the central government’s new Farm laws to be scrapped.
Police resorted to mild lathicharge and fired water canons on the farmers who had assembled in the state capital for their march to governor’s house, it is reported.
Thousands of farmers, under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sangharsh Samanvay Samiti and other Left parties, had assembled in Patna since early morning and began their march from the historic Gandhi Maidan, HT reports.
The agitating farmers, who broke the lock of Gate number 6 of the historic Gandhi Maidan and began their march to Raj Bhawan via busy Dak Bungalow crossing were stopped midway. The busy Dak Bungalow crossing witnessed chaotic scenes when the protesters ran helter skelter after the Police stopped them and reportedly resorted to mild lathi-charge.
The protesters also shouted slogan against the state and Central governments during the march.
Tens of thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other places are camping out on highways near New Delhi for over a month demanding scrapping of the new farm laws.
