NEW DELHI — Congress reacted strongly against the appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had asked the nation on Friday to light diyas and candles on 5th April, 9pm as a sign of solidarity.
While addressing the nation on Friday morning, Prime Minister praised the determination of the country during the lockdown and appealed to every citizen to switch off all lights for nine minutes and light up lamps or torch or cell phone flashlights on Sunday at 9 pm for 9 minutes.
Senior Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Shashi Tharoor has slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ saying there is no vision of future in PM Modi’s speech.
“Listened to the Pradhan Showman. Nothing about how to ease people’s pain, their burdens, their financial anxieties. No vision of the future or sharing the issues he is weighing in deciding about the post-lockdown. Just a feel-good moment curated by India’s Photo-Op PrimeMinister,” tweeted Tharoor.

He aid in another tweet:
“PM spoke on Ram Navami at 9 am for 9 mins, asked us to light diyas & candles on 5/4 at 9 pm for 9 mins. He is invoking all the auspicious elements Hinduism associates with number 9. Back to Ram Bharose?!”
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also targeted Prime Minister Modi on Saturday for his appeal to switch off all lights throughout country and light up candles on April 5.
Priyanka Gandhi, who is the party in charge of the eastern Uttar Pradesh, in a tweet said, “While the country is expressing solidarity in the war against Corona, it is expected that the power grids and engineers’ concerns are also being taken care of by the Central government. So that there is no obstruction in the power supply during the crisis and in times of need.”
https://t.co/Zk9UCwRUjE

She also attached a news report which said that switching off the lights at the same time across the country can lead to power grid failures and chances of blackout could arise.
Member of the Bihar Legislative Council and AICC media panelist, Prem Chandra Mishra came down hard and tweeted his reactions on the Prime Minister’s address, by questioning the month-long delay in enforcing a lockdown.
Mishra questioned why the prime minister did not heed to alerts by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and enforce a lockdown a month earlier. He also considers such events are unnecessary and asked how will the homeless or those living in houses without a balcony participate in the event?

Mishra also tweeted that he will not be turning off lights or lighting diyas on 5th and that the prime minister needs to answer why he did not listen to Gandhi’s suggestion. He said the April 5 event is nothing but an event management gimmick, according to ABP News.
“I don’t mean to break the country’s resolve in fighting against Coronavirus. Entire country earlier supported by clapping and clanging plates. Can we now fight by lighting lamps and not taking adequate measures. My point is Rahul Gandhi’s warning was ignored by the government.
“Instead of providing essential medical supplies to states, the government is exporting them to other countries. I feel PM Modi’s message is only an event management tactic,” Prem Chandra Mishra told ABP News.
