US president says Iran’s description of the proposed agreement “bears no relation to the truth,” labelling the Iranians “very dishonourable people to deal with.”
US President Donald Trump has said that Tehran’s stated version of a proposed US-Iran deal on stopping the war is not what was agreed to.
President Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday morning that media reports about the terms of the memorandum of understanding with Iran were incorrect.
“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing,” he wrote.
“What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith. AMAZING! Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST!”
Both sides diverge
Iran’s official news agency IRNA had earlier published what it described as a 7-point draft memorandum, diverging from a deal outline previously reported by US news outlets.
IRNA said Iran would assume no new nuclear obligations and would retain full authority over the Strait of Hormuz — while Axios had reported a framework addressing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and an “immediate reopening” of the waterway without tolls.
According to the Iranian report, Iran would make no commitment on transferring control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that Tehran has effectively closed since the early stages of the conflict.
The issue would instead be addressed through dialogue and joint decision-making between Iran and Oman.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday the “main part” of the text had been finalised, while accusing Washington of undermining progress through contradictory positions.
