Women’s Reservation Bill Incomplete Without OBC Quota: Rahul

Date:

NEW DELHI — Participating in the dabate in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that he supports the women’s reservation bill but lamented that the measure was “incomplete” as it lacks quota for other backward classes.

Rahul Gandhi also said the President should have been invited when the transfer of proceedings took place from the old to the new Parliament building.

“President is a woman, from tribal community, would’ve been befitting to have her visible in transfer to new Parliament building,” Rahul Gandhi said in the Lok Sabha. He also pushed for a caste census.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in Lok Sabha on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, which seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state Legislative Assemblies as debate on the issue is completed. — With agency inputs
