Viral Video Misleadingly Claims Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh; Fact-Check Reveals True Incident

Date:

DHAKA – A video currently doing rounds on social media claims that it shows recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh by fundamentalists, suggesting that Hindus are being forced to jump from rooftops to escape brutality. However, a fact-check reveals that this claim is false.

The video, dated August 5, 2024, does not depict any religious violence against Hindus. Instead, it shows an incident involving a police building in Keraniganj, Dhaka. The building in question is the office of DB South, Dhaka Zilla. The incident occurred after Sheikh Hasina’s fall from power, leading to public unrest due to the police’s harsh actions against civilian and student protests, Vartha Bharati reported.

It is important to note that “Bangladesh Police” is visible on the building’s nameplate in the video, further confirming that the video has no connection to any religious violence.
