US-Brokered Ceasefire is a Blow to India’s Sovereignty, Says AAP

The party also claims that Operation Sindoor against targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was halted under US pressure

NEW DELHI — The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a scathing attack on the Union government led by Narendra Modi over the United States-brokered ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling it a blow to India’s sovereignty and a serious compromise of national integrity.

The party also claimed that Operation Sindoor against targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was halted under US pressure.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh questioned the Modi government’s acceptance of third-party mediation, breaking with India’s long-standing position of handling issues with Pakistan bilaterally.

Singh criticised US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire announcement and demanded an explanation from the prime minister.

“For 78 years, India has firmly rejected third-party mediation in matters concerning Pakistan — then what business did America have here today?” Singh asked.

He urged the prime minister to convene an all-party meeting and a special session of Parliament to clarify the government’s stance on the ceasefire, which he described as a “surrender of national honour.”

Referring to last month’s Pahalgam attack, Singh said the terrorists snatched sindoor (vermilion) from the foreheads of our sisters. “Backed and funded by Pakistan, they infiltrated 200 kilometres into Indian territory, carried out a brutal attack, and returned unchallenged. The entire nation is outraged,” he said.

Following the attack, Singh said the government had convened an all-party meeting and launched Operation Sindoor, under which the Indian Army reportedly entered Pakistani territory and destroyed nine terrorist camps. According to Singh, the government claimed that over 100 terrorists were neutralised and that the operation was still ongoing with plans to eliminate 21 identified camps.

“Our army was displaying unmatched courage at the borders, foiling drone attacks, destroying Pakistani drones and airbases,” Singh said, listing several Indian soldiers who were martyred in recent confrontations, including ADC Rajkumar Thapa and Havaldar Dinesh Sharma.

Singh claimed the Indian Army had a strategic opportunity to reclaim PoK and support the independence movement in Balochistan. “When our army was close to achieving this objective, the United States suddenly announced a ceasefire. This is not just a setback, it is an insult to the self-respect of 140 crore Indians,” he said.

He accused the government of silently accepting the ceasefire without informing the nation about its terms. “The Indian people have a right to know what happened to the four terrorists who desecrated the sindoor of our sisters in Pahalgam. When and how will they be brought to justice?” he asked.

Singh also questioned President Trump’s statement describing both India and Pakistan as “great nations” and suggesting future negotiations at a neutral venue. “Is the prime minister also of the view that Pakistan — a country that harbours terrorists and struggles to feed its own people — is a powerful and respectable nation?” he asked.

Criticising potential moves to reopen trade relations with Pakistan, Singh said, “Why should India consider trade with a country that cannot even uphold a ceasefire for three hours — and that too, on America’s recommendation?”

Concluding his remarks, Singh demanded full transparency from the government. “The prime minister must address the nation and Parliament. The people deserve to know under what pressure this ceasefire was agreed upon, and what it means for India’s sovereignty and strategic goals,” he said.

AAP’s chief spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, also slammed the prime minister, alleging that he has betrayed the country’s people. In a post on X, she stated: “In this battle between humanity and terrorism, 1.4 billion Indians stood with the prime minister. But now, we all feel betrayed — how could a foreign power impose a full stop on our internal matters? If this ceasefire had been declared by the prime minister, it would have been understandable.”

The prime minister, she said, must address the nation and explain why a foreign power superseded the Government of India in making such a decision. And after a ceasefire like this, can we still trust Pakistan?
