MUMBAI – A widespread outrage has sparked in Maharashtra after NCP Ajit working president Praful Patel presented a ‘Jire Top ‘ (safa), traditionally associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The gesture has led to protests across Maharashtra, including a significant demonstration in Chalisgaon taluk of Jalgaon district.

Protestors gathered in front of the Tahsildar office in Chalisgaon, demonstrating and expressing their dissent against the gesture.

While Criticising Patel, Ganesh Pawar, in charge of Rait Sena Chalisgaon, suggested extreme measures to prove loyalty to Modi.

Pawar stated, “Jire Top  is the identity of the Maratha community. Maratha people have a blood relationship with this Jire Top .”

Laxman Sarshath of the Sambhaji Brigade said, “The identity of the Maratha nation should not be challenged. Chhatrapati should not be insulted for flattery and selfish politics.”

This incident has intensified debates on the use of cultural symbols in politics. The Maratha community views the gesture as disrespectful to their heritage. The NCP Ajit faces potential political fallout from this controversy.
