MUZAFFARNAGAR- As the inauguration of Ram temple approaches, tensions are high, revealing disturbing developments. The fervor among the Hindu majority appears to be taking a concerning turn, leading to conflicts that risk exacerbating religious divides.

In a disquieting incident on Monday evening, the Somwariya area of Shajapur became a hotspot for heightened tensions as an altercation during a religious procession resulted in stone-pelting, leaving a youth injured. The confrontation unfolded when youths affiliated with Hindu organizations distributed yellow Akshats and chanted slogans, triggering a dispute with some Muslim individuals over the nature of the slogans.

Local authorities, led by Kotwali police station TI Brijesh Mishra, swiftly intervened to manage the situation. SDM Narendranath Pandey also arrived to engage with the community and ensure that appropriate action would be taken.

Following the incident, members of Hindu organizations filed a formal complaint at Kotwali police station, urging the immediate arrest of the alleged attackers and the demolition of their residences. This led to a tense situation at the police station, with protesters vehemently demanding swift justice.

Acknowledging the sensitivity of the incident, Shajapur MLA Arun Bhimawat called for immediate and stringent action. He underscored that the clash occurred during a religious procession on Monday night, intensifying tensions within the city.

An anonymous local resident disclosed that after the stone-pelting incident, members of Hindu organizations gathered at the police station, passionately demanding action against the perpetrators. The situation escalated with slogans raised outside the police station, prompting police efforts to manage the crowd without further escalation.

A Muslim resident, speaking anonymously, explained that the altercation began with an attempt to incite Muslims using offensive language, leading to objections and physical confrontation. This escalation eventually culminated in the stone-pelting incident.

Reports indicate that the aftermath saw damaged vehicles in the city, with tensions spreading to sensitive zones like Shri Ram Shyam Khedi, Kotwali police station, and the union office. Some vehicle windows were broken during the incident.

While authorities assure that the situation is under control, there are reports of an atmosphere of panic in Muslim areas. This incident raises concerns, particularly in anticipation of the scheduled event in Ayodhya on January 22, where Akshats are planned to be distributed from house to house.
