BAREILLY — In a landmark verdict, the Bareilly Fast Track Court on Thursday sentenced a man and his parents to death for the brutal murder of a woman in a dowry-related case.
Delivering the judgment, Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar cited a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and condemned the greed that led to the heinous crime.
The incident dates back to May 1 last year when the victim was allegedly attacked with an axe by her husband and in-laws in Juraj Nagar village under Nawabganj police station. The accused slit her throat, leading to her death. The court found the trio guilty of the murder and imposed a fine of Rs 5,40,000 in addition to the death sentence.
In his verdict, Judge Diwakar remarked, “Perhaps the husband was greedy for money than his wife’s qualities. The car and cash received in dowry did not reduce the greed of the in-laws. In their height of greed, they attacked their innocent and beloved daughter-in-law with an axe and killed her.”
The judge also referenced Islamic teachings, stating, “The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) said that marriage is my Sunnah, and whoever does not follow my Sunnah is not one of us. In Muslim society, marriage is considered a very good deed and worship.”
Assistant District Government Advocate Digambar Singh, who represented the prosecution, said, “Today, Fast Track Court I Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar sentenced the mother-in-law, father-in-law, and husband to death in the dowry murder case. Eight witnesses were presented, and the evidence was conclusive.”
