NEW DELHI – Two Muslim brothers became victims of a brutal assault by a mob following a heated argument between the former and a shopkeeper in a market in Bulandshahr District of Uttar Pradesh.
A viral video of the incident, occurring on Sunday under the jurisdiction of Gulaothi police station, shows some persons holding the brothers separately while others rain blows and kicks on them.
The father of the victims said the brothers were sent to a shop to buy some household items. He said the shopkeeper, Santlal, had put an unsolicited item in the bag. “I sent my sons back to the shop to return the extra item,” he said.
The father said the shopkeeper did not take the item back. Instead, he began assaulting the brothers after an argument. “About 10 to 15 people joined the attack and more people were called to assault them. My sons are critically injured,” said the father.
To add to the agony of the father, the victims have been booked on charges of disturbing peace.
The Bulandshahr Police claim that the brothers started the attack on the shopkeeper along with some of their friends.
