UP Dalit Man Shot Dead over Land Dispute with Thakurs

SHAHJAHANPUR – A 45-year-old Dalit man in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly shot dead and four members of his family sustained injuries in an attack mounted by a group of armed men who fired indiscriminately. It involved an old dispute over a property.

The incident took place in Bighapur Kesari village in Shahjahanpur on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Drigpal. The four injured are Kaladevi, Aadhram, Babli and Savitri Devi.

The dispute was reportedly between the Dalit family and some members of the Thakur community.

Two accused have been arrested and the weapons used in the incident have been recovered.

An FIR has been registered under the IPC sections of murder and attempt to murder and the SC/ST Act.

Additional SP (rural) Nipun Agarwal said: “Drigpal died on the spot while three women and a man were wounded in the attack.”

SSP S. Anand said that the family will be provided adequate compensation under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and security teams have been posted in the village to ensure their safety. -IANS
