The victim’s family alleges that no effective intervention was made by the local police, who reached the area while the assault was ongoing
NEW DELHI — A 25-year-old Muslim father of four was beaten to death by a mob in Bihar’s Siwan district. The family of the victim, Shahzad Ali, accused a group of villagers of brutally attacking him after taking him from his home in Shivrajpur village, within Barharia police station limits.
Shahzad died following the assault, which took place on Sunday. His widow, Mobina, alleged that several men came to their house and persuaded her husband to accompany them, claiming they wanted to meet him as friends. Shortly afterward, she learned that he was being attacked.
“Some people came to the house and, under the pretext of friendship, took Shahzad outside. They then brutally beat him, tied him to a tree, and continued assaulting him,” Mobina was quoted as saying by Foej Media.

Narrating her ordeal, Mobina said her husband was tied to a tree and repeatedly beaten with sticks and kicked. Her repeated pleas for help also fell on deaf ears.
According to the family, local police personnel from the Dial 112 emergency response team reached the area while the assault was ongoing. However, relatives and villagers alleged that no effective intervention was made to stop the attack.
Photographs of Shahzad’s body that surfaced on social media showed multiple injuries and bruises, indicating the severity of the assault. Shahzad, a cook by profession, is survived by his wife and four young children, the eldest of whom is six years old.
Following the incident, Mobina lodged a complaint with the police, naming eight individuals. Those named in the FIR include Amit Chaudhary alias Avadhesh Chaudhary, Pramendra Manjhi, Chhatthu Manjhi, Avadh Kishore Chaudhary, Guddu Manjhi, Ranjan Chaudhary, and Mantu Kumar, along with several unidentified persons.
Mobina maintained that her husband had no known disputes or personal enmity with anyone in the village. She also alleged that around ₹5,000 in cash carried by Shahzad was taken by the attackers.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused. Additional security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

It is pertinent to mention that Shahzad’s elder brother, Naushad Ali, was also found dead under mysterious circumstances a few months ago.
According to the family, Naushad’s body was discovered hanging from a tree. The family did not report the death or pursue the case out of fear.
Investigation into Shahzad’s death is ongoing, and police say efforts are being made to apprehend all those involved.
