MAU — Abbas Ansari, the legislator son of renowned politician Mukhtar Ansari, was released from Kasganj jail on Friday (March 21) after two and a half years. The release came shortly after he offered Friday prayers, marking a moment of immense relief and joy for his family and supporters.
Mukhtar Ansar, a five-time MLA from Mau Sadar, died of a cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda in March last year at the age of 63. A five-time MLA from the Mau Sadar seat, he was in jail in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005. His family alleges that he died due to a “slow poisoning” in Banda’s District Jail.
The release of Abbas Ansari, the current legislator from Mau, follows a Supreme Court order on March 7, which granted him conditional bail in a case under the Gangster Act. The jail administration received the official warrant two weeks later, paving the way for his freedom. A video of Abbas reuniting with his son outside the jail has since gone viral on social media, capturing the emotional moment.
“This is a blessing from Allah. We have waited for this day for so long, and now, just before Eid, we have our son back,” said a family member, visibly moved. The timing of his release during the holy month of Ramadan has added to the family’s happiness, with many calling it a “double celebration.”
Abbas Ansari had been lodged in Kasganj jail since February 15, 2023, facing multiple charges. His release after two years and eight months has been welcomed by his supporters, who see it as a turning point for the Ansari family.
“The Supreme Court’s decision has brought us immense relief. Abbas has suffered a lot, and now he can finally be with his family,” said a close associate of the Ansari family.
The release has also sparked celebrations among his political supporters, who see it as a significant development ahead of Eid. “This is a moment of joy not just for the family but for all of us who have stood by them,” said a local supporter.
As Abbas Ansari steps out of jail, the Ansari family is looking forward to celebrating Eid with renewed hope and gratitude. For now, the focus remains on family reunions and the emotional moments that come with it.
“After so long, we can finally breathe easy. This Ramadan and Eid will be special for us,” said another family member, echoing the sentiments of many.
