NEW DELHI – A disturbing incident has come to light from Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Two Muslim girls were assaulted by a group of individuals in the Deoband police station area. On their way home after visiting their relatives in Deoband, an unidentified person on a motorcycle asked the girls for directions to Saharanpur. While they were helping him, some locals gathered around them, misbehaved, used abusive language, and forcibly removed their hijabs.
The girls have filed a complaint with the police. The police are searching for the accused boys, and one has been detained for questioning.
According to reports, the Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain stated that on December 13, a young woman filed a written complaint in the Deoband police station area. She reported that on December 11, she was returning home with her sister after visiting relatives at Darul Uloom Deoband.
The complaint further mentioned that the boys recorded the entire incident and shared the video on social media. Jain stated that the police have registered a case against the unidentified individuals. Based on the viral video, one person has been detained for questioning, and efforts are underway to identify the others through the video.
The assailants are said to have also hurled derogatory remarks at the girls.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns about the safety of minority communities in the region.
Local authorities have confirmed that a complaint has been filed and an investigation is underway. A police spokesperson stated, “We are taking this matter very seriously. Efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous act.”
Community leaders and activists have condemned the incident, calling it a blatant act of intolerance and an attack on religious freedom. “Such incidents not only violate the personal rights of individuals but also threaten the communal harmony of our society,” said a prominent social activist.
