On Sunday morning Police received the information that on Tukri Road the suspected cow smugglers were loading cows on a vehicle. When the police personnel reached the spot, the cow smugglers reportedly resorted to firing at the police. Policemen were forced to retaliate causing bullet injury to one person. He was taken to a nearby hospital, according to media reports.

The police also reportedly confiscated loaded firearms and a Bolero pickup truck containing a live cow and equipment used for the illicit transportation of the cattle.

The arrested individuals are reportedly involved in multiple cow-smuggling incidents, with over 40 criminal cases registered against them across various police stations.

Sunday’s arrest is part of a broader crackdown by the state authorities targeting organised cow smuggling activities in the region.

On Friday, three Delhi-based men, who allegedly slaughtered cows, were arrested after an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said police arrested them in an encounter late on Thursday night near the Shahjahanpur Raghana canal in the Mawana police station area. One accused was shot in the leg.

Mishra said the arrested accused had allegedly slaughtered three bulls in the fields of the Tigri village on November 5 and a case was registered in this matter.
