The Beating of Drums

These are the days of beating drums,
Of proclaiming an iron state;
Words are fired from motor mouths
Like bullets of fatal hate.
Gone are the namby pamby days
When diffidence betokened thought;
At last we own the truth of things—
A privilege with power bought.
God help the dithering humanists
Who listen to the other side;
The other side is always wrong,
And we will have their hide.
