Following the arrest of seven persons, the family of the murdered Hyderabad lawyer calls for speedy justice and enhanced security
HYDERABAD — The family of slain senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin has demanded the death penalty for those accused of his murder, along with a fast-track trial and enhanced security measures. The demand follows the arrest of seven individuals in connection with the high-profile case.
Moizuddin, a senior lawyer associated with several legal battles involving Waqf properties, was allegedly killed after being run over by a car in Hyderabad’s Nampally area. Investigators have since arrested seven people, including Congress leader Zahid Alam Khan, Mahboob Alam Khan and others accused of involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
Speaking to the media, Moizuddin’s son, Mohammad Sanaullah Farhan, called for the strongest possible punishment against all those found guilty.
“I will request the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor in a special court to ensure that all the accused, including Mujahid Alam Khan, Mahboob Alam Khan and the others involved, are convicted for this brutal murder and awarded the death penalty,” Farhan said.
According to investigators, the murder was allegedly linked to a dispute over Waqf properties and their management. Police have claimed that differences between the accused and the deceased regarding control and administration of Waqf assets had been continuing for some time.
Officials said civil, criminal and Waqf Tribunal cases involving the parties were already pending before various courts.
Farhan also thanked the Hyderabad City Police for acting swiftly in the case.
“I would like to thank the Hyderabad City Police for doing their job and arresting the accused. I will request the police department to ensure that the trial proceeds in a very fast and expeditious manner,” he said.
Expressing concern for the safety of his family, Farhan said he had sought additional security from the authorities.
“I have requested protection and security for my family. I will also submit an application for a firearms licence,” he stated.
Farhan further said he had received assurances regarding support from the legal fraternity.
“I have been assured that the Telangana High Court will consider passing a resolution to ensure that advocates belonging to the Telangana Bar do not appear on behalf of these accused persons,” he said.
Police investigating the case have alleged that the accused conspired to eliminate the lawyer and arranged the attack that led to his death.
According to the investigation, the alleged conspirators provided financial support to those who carried out the attack. Investigators claim that the victim was deliberately targeted and killed using a vehicle.
Authorities have not yet filed the final chargesheet, and the case remains under investigation.
The case has also had political consequences. Following the arrests, action was reportedly taken against some of the accused who were associated with political organisations.
The murder has attracted widespread attention in Hyderabad because of the victim’s role in legal disputes involving valuable Waqf properties and educational institutions.
Lawyers, community leaders and members of civil society have demanded a thorough investigation and a fair trial, while stressing that guilt or innocence must ultimately be determined by the courts based on evidence presented during the proceedings.
As the investigation continues, the victim’s family says its primary focus remains securing justice for Khaja Moizuddin and ensuring that those responsible, if convicted by the courts, receive the maximum punishment permitted under law.
