This comes after Hindu businessman offering his house; Muslims welcome both the gestures

NEW DELHI — After a Hindu businessman made a heart-warming gesture of offering his space to Muslims for Namaz, Sikhs have opened the doors of gurdwaras for Muslims to hold congregational prayers in Gurugram. This comes in the wake of a concerted campaign by Hindu groups to disrupt ‘Namaz in the open’ for more than two months.

A committee of five Gurdwaras in Gurugram has asked Muslims to come and pray at their places of worship. These Gurdwaras are located in Saddar Bazaar, Sector 39, Sector 46, Model Town and Jacobpura.

“A gurdwara is the house of the Guru. People from all communities are welcome to come here and pray. If the Muslim community is facing problems in praying at designated sites, they can offer prayers in the gurdwaras. The doors of gurdwaras are open to all,” Sherdil Singh Sidhu, president of the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sabzi Mandi, Gurgaon, was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

“We are celebrating the birth anniversary of our first Guru (Guru Nanak Dev) on Friday. These gurdwaras can accommodate over 2,000 people, but we have proposed that people pray in small batches of 30-40 and maintain social distancing on account of Covid,” he said.

Muslims have welcomed the offer by Sikh community. Mufti Muhammad Saleem, president of Jamiat Ulama in Gurgaon, termed it as a generous step and said that prayers would be offered at Sector 39 and Saddar Bazaar Gurdwaras this Friday.

Earlier, a young man named Akshay Yadav, a resident of Sector 12, Gurgaon, offered his vacant house for prayers. Last Friday, 15 people had even offered prayers there. -IANS
