KOLKATA (IANS) – On a day when 19 lakh people were excluded from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list in Assam, Congress MP and former Minister Shashi Tharoor quoted Rabindranath Tagore to say, “There is a thin line between nationalism and xenophobia.”

The final NRC list, released at 10 a.m, named 3,11,21,004 people as Indian citizens.

“There is a thin line between nationalism and xenophobia — besides, hatred of the foreigner could later turn into a hatred of Indians different from oneself,” said Tagore.

The prescience of a great man!” Tharoor, a carer diplomat-turned-politician, posted on his twitter handle.
