NEW DELHI — Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day following a ruckus by opposition parties over a no-confidence motion seeking the removal of Vice President and House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
As the session began, opposition members raised slogans and disrupted the proceedings, demanding discussion of the motion, The New Indian Express reported.
The uproar intensified as Chairman Dhankhar attempted to proceed with the listed agenda, prompting him to adjourn the House till 12 pm and then later for the day.
The INDIA opposition bloc on Tuesday submitted a notice in the Rajya Sabha seeking the removal of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, accusing him of exhibiting ‘partisan’ conduct as the Chairman of the Upper House.
The notice, signed by 60 opposition MPs from parties such as Congress, RJD, TMC, CPI, CPI(M), JMM, AAP, DMK, and the Samajwadi Party, was submitted to Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody by Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Naseer Hussain on behalf of the opposition.
