NEW DELHI – As Khalid Saifi, a civil rights activist associated with the United Against Hate, completed four months in prison, a section of twitterati Sunday evening trended the Hashtag #ReleaseKhalidSaifi on social media.

The users posted tweets and visuals with the hashtag #releasekhalidsaifi and #justiceforkhalidsaifi decrying his continued incarceration as they said that Saifi is being “held without crime”. He was arrested by the Delhi Police in late February at the time of anti-Muslim riots in Delhi. Ever since, Saifi has been under detention charged with multiple cases, including instigating rioting. He was even allegedly tortured in police custody earlier.
Some tweets said he is being targeted for raising his voice over violence against minorities.
Khaild saifi is one of the first activists who began a people’s movement against the controversial Citizenship (amendment) Act in December last year when the bill was tabled in parliament last year.
Khalid Saifi was arrested by Delhi Police on 26 February.
Since then he is in Jail, he was tortured in custody, he is charged under UAPA,rioting, murder and what not.

One of the videos doing rounds on Twitter show his wife making a passionate plea for Saifi’s release fearing he may get infected with coronavirus inside the prison. He suffers from diabetes. The children always ask her, “when will their Abbu come home,” she says amidst sobs. “I have no answer.”
