AYODHYA – A 20-year-old sanitation worker at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple here has accused nine men of gang rape, leading to the arrest of five suspects so far. The horrific incidents are said to have occurred on three different occasions between August 16 and 25.

The case was officially registered on September 2 at the Cantt police station in Ayodhya after the female worker filed a complaint.

Cantt Inspector-in-Charge (SHO) Amarendra Pratap Singh initially stated on Friday that an FIR was registered on September 2, and three of the accused were arrested immediately.”

Later, on Friday, Ayodhya Superintendent of Police (City) Madhuvan Singh confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects, bringing the total number of arrests to five. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vansh, Vinay, Shariq, Shiva, and Udit. “Of the arrested persons, three were taken into custody the day after the FIR was lodged, while two more were arrested later. The investigation is ongoing,” said Superintendent Singh.

The victim works as a sanitation worker at the Ram temple and is also pursuing her final year of undergraduate studies at a local college. Her complaint alleges that the gang rape took place over multiple days, with seven named individuals and two others yet to be identified as perpetrators.

The police have charged the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 75 (sexual assault), and 70(1) (gang rape).

As the investigation continues, the arrests mark a significant step in what is expected to be a prolonged legal battle. The case has drawn attention due to its connection to the Ram temple and the brutal nature of the alleged crime.
