JAIPUR — The poison of communalism is spreading fast in the country. In a sordid incident in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, a Hindutva protagonist on Saturday abused and assaulted a Muslim vegetable vendor after establishing his Muslim identity. The assaulter is a former BJP group leader, according to his Facebook profile.
The vendor has been identified as Shehroz from Uttar Pradesh while the attacker is Anshul Dadhich.
A video of the incident was recoded and the accused himself oploaded that video on social meadi, may be to show his ‘achievement’.
The police, however, arrested Dadhich on Saturday after the video of the incident went viral. In the video Dadhich can be seen asking the vegetable vendor as to where is he from and is he a mullah (Muslim)?
As Shehroz said that he is a Muslim, Dadhich slapped him severely calling him “Bangladeshi”. The victim said that he is an Indian. Then, Dadhich forced him to open his pant to identify his religion. When someone asked why he is beating the vendor, he said that he is ‘Mullah’ and slapped him again.
After his arrest, a video of Dadhich expressing his regret over his dreadful act has also surfaced. In the video, he has said he had some sleeping problem and that he will not do it again in future.
On his Facebook profile, Dahdich described himself as former group leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has photos with the BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya with the patta of BJP flag in his neck.
Reacting to the incident, TMC MP Mahua Moitra said that such incident happened because the BJP is ruling in the state.
“This is what you get when you vote in a BJP state government. Beware Haryana, beware. Make sure the ideology that churns out these sick criminals finds no place in your state,” she said.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Hegde said “This is not Hinduism. This is simply hate of a fellow citizen and is truly anti-national”.
TMC Parliamentary leader Derek Obrien urged People from all communities to speak up strongly against such atrocities.
Meanwhile, the police said that Anshul Dadhich was arrested from his house after he posted the video on social media. The police also arrested Himmat Singh, the man who was allegedly making the video.
According to the police, his social media profile showed that Anshul regularly posted extremist content on social media.
The accused had climbed on the water tank last year, demanding that the country be declared a Hindu Rashtra, following which the police had brought him down and a case was registered against him.
In 2017, he climbed atop a water tank in Jaipur, raising slogans, some of which were in favour of Shambhulal Regar, the man accused of murdering Muslim labourer Mohammed Afrazul. He was later held and police claimed that he climbed on top the tank because of “family problems”.
