JAIPUR – A 22-year-old Muslim youth was beaten to death by a group of people after being lured and taken elsewhere in a camper van in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.
The victim has been identified as Zahid from Mukundgarh’s Dhani village. According to reports, Zahid succumbed to his injuries in a Jaipur hospital on Sunday night. Tension prevailed in the village as his body was brought there and the family refused to accept it unless the accused in his murder were not arrested.
Zahid was preparing for some competitive exam, reports said.
Taufiq, brother of Zahid, filed a complaint with the police on 25 October. According to the complaint, on 21 October, Zahid was taken by some people somewhere in a camper van. Two hours later, his father Jamil received a call asking him to take his son from a particular location. When Jamil reached the location, the alleged kidnappers pushed Zahid out of the van and fled. There were three persons in the van and two of them were identified by Jamil.

Jamil took his son to the Navagarh Hospital from where he was referred to Sikar and Jaipur. In Jaipur, Zahid’s condition worsened and he breathed his last.
Former minister Rajendra Singh Gudha, who joined the family’s protest, said Zahid was killed only because of his Muslim identity.
“The only crime he had committed was that he was a Muslim. He was picked from his home and killed. Look at their audacity, they (the accused) tell the family to take the body after packing it up in a bag. It is the height of injustice that the administration did not file an FIR even after five days,” said Gudha.
He asserted that he opposes such injustices on the people from a particular community and stands by the family members of the deceased while demanding justice for them.
“The way the administration conducted postmortem in the darkness of the night and forcefully held the funeral shows that attempts are being made to protect the culprit. I will never let this happen. The deceased and his family must get justice. I will fight for his justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, Navalgarh DSP Rajvir Singh said that they have received reports from both parties and they are making efforts to search the accused.
On 24 October, a woman, who is the sister of the accused, claimed that the deceased entered her house and thrashed her. The incident happened on 21 October itself. During the incident, Zahid was tied with rope. Then, his father was called and he took him to his home after signing an agreement with her.
