SRINAGAR (IANS) — Protests over the disappearance of a student rocked Kashmir University for the third day on Wednesday, even as varsity authorities appealed to them to maintain calm.

Students continued their agitation as they demanded to know the whereabouts of Sameer Ahmad, second semester student in the department of Earth Sciences, who had left his home in Kakapora town of Pulwama district on March 19 and has since not been heard of.

Class work and other academic activities were adversely affected on campus due to the heightened tension.

University authorities, meanwhile, issued a statement appealing students to maintain calm as the Vice Chancellor had written to state police chief demanded swift action in tracing the missing student.
