AMETHI – Following similar protests in Kashmir and Lucknow, members of the Shia community in Jais town in the Uttar Pradesh district of Amethi took to the streets on Tuesday in support of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli attack recently. The demonstration was reportedly organised without prior approval from local authorities, prompting swift police intervention.

Carrying posters and banners of the slain leader, protesters marched through the streets, raising slogans eulogising him. The authorities, alerted to the unsanctioned gathering, moved quickly to disperse the crowd. As a result, several organisers were detained. The police have filed cases against 40 named individuals and 11 unidentified participants. Among those, eight people have been arrested and sent to jail.

During Tuesday’s protest, the demonstrators held up large cutouts of Nasrallah and banners with slogans like “Come Back” and “Hezbollah,” rallying support for the late leader.

Circle Officer Ajay Singh, who is overseeing the investigation, confirmed the arrests. “A procession was held in Jais, under Amethi district, without proper permission. The crowd gathered and raised slogans in support of Nasrallah. We have registered a case, and key organisers, including Mohammad Ansar, Zeeshan, Syed Ahmad, Syed Azizul Hasanain, Naseem Haider, and Tahzeeb, have been arrested. Badshah Anwar and Taufiq Hussain have also been sent to jail,” he stated.

The protest is part of a broader demonstrations in support of Nasrallah, with similar rallies being held in other regions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further unrest.
