Prof. Naima Khatoon, AMU’s First Female VC, has a Wealth of Experience

NEW DELHI — Prof. Naima Khatoon, appointed Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) this week, brings to her new role a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of psychology and education.

Prof. Khatoon, the first female to hold the prestigious position in the premier institution’s chequered history, steps into the shoes of Tariq Mansoor whose term ended in April 2023.

The announcement of her appointment was made by the Union Ministry of Education which maintained that due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the ongoing general elections, permission was sought from the Election Commission of India.

Having served as a Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology, as well as the Principal of the Women’s College at AMU since July 2014, Prof. Khatoon has demonstrated outstanding leadership and academic excellence throughout her career.

Her academic credentials are exemplary, with a PhD in Political Psychology and a distinguished record of research and publication. Prof. Khatoon’s contributions extend beyond the realm of academia, as she has held various administrative positions within AMU and has actively participated in national and international conferences, presenting papers on a wide range of subjects.
