Police Lathicharges, Fires Teargas at Jamia Students Protesting against CAB; Many Injured

NEW Delhi – Delhi police has lathicharged and fired teargas at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) students who were taking out protest rally against the controversial citizenship law passed by the parliament from outside the university campus to the Parliament street on Friday afternoon. Many students including female were injured and admitted to the Holi Family Hospital and around 50 students were reportedly detained.

Around thousands of people which mostly comprised of students took out a rally against the Citizenship Amendment from outside the campus.

The rally was stopped at the Holi family hospital by the police, said SIO (Student Islamic Organisation) leader Syed Azharuddin in a Facebook Post. He said around 50 students were detained. They were reportedly held at the Badarpur police station.

In a video posted on Twitter, the police are being seen beating students at the campus. In another video, some students are complaining to be beaten up brutally by the police.

The new amendment to the citizenship act has provision to grant the citizenship to all non-Muslim communities.
