PM Modi’s Mother Heeraben Modi Dies at the Age of 100; Condolences Pour in

NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 early on Friday morning.

She was admitted to Ahmedabad’s UN Mehta Hospital after her health deteriorated.

UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre said in a statement, “Heeraba Modi passed away on December 30 at 3.30 a.m. (early morning) during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart hospital.”

Modi wrote with a heavy heart, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God. In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”

The Prime Minister met his mother for the last time at the hospital where she had been admitted on Wednesday.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday led the nation in mourning the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben.

Taking to twitter, the President said in Hindi, “A lifelong struggle (hundred years) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heera ba is a symbol of Indian ideals. Shri Modi imbibed the spirit of ‘#Matridevobhav’ and the values of Heeraben in his life. I pray for the peace of the holy soul. My condolences to the family!”.

Recalling Heeraben as an embodiment of simplicity and sublimity, the Vice-President paid homage to the departed soul.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tributes to the Prime Minister’s mother underlining her sacrificial ascetic life will always be remembered.

Cutting across party lines, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed his condolences on the death of Heera ben. “The news of the demise of Heera Ben, mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extremely sad. At this difficult time, I extend my deepest condolences and love to him and his family”.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin tweeted, “Dear Prime Minister @NarendraModi,
We all know the emotional bond you had with your beloved mother Hiraba. The grief of losing one’s mother is too hard to bear for anyone. I am deeply saddened and no words can describe how sorry I am for your loss. Sending my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences in this hour of grief. May you find peace & comfort in the memories you shared with your mom.”

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also offered their condolences on the demise of Heeraben Modi, the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee in a statement issued from her office expressed her condolences over the demise of Prime Minister’s mother. “She died at a hospital in Ahmedabad this morning. She was 100. She was the symbol of love, patience and faith. She was extremely affectionate towards children. I express my condolences to the Prime Minister,” she said in the message.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Heeraben Modi, the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said the death of Heeraben Modi is a huge loss for the entire nation.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale issued a statement saying, “The demise of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s revered mother Heera ba brings to an end the life of an ascetic. Each and every Swayamsevak of the RSS offers tributes to the departed soul. Mataji remained committed to values and had an unwavering faith in the Almighty despite the extreme difficulties she endured in her life. She led a dutiful and meaningful life”.

“We offer our deepest condolences to Shri Narendra bhai Modi and his family in this hour of grief. May the departed soul attain Moksha! Om Shanti!”, mentioned in the statement.

Meanwhile, responding to the homages, Prime Minister Modi’s family source said, “We thank everyone for their prayers in these tough times. It is our humble request to everyone to keep the departed soul in their thoughts and continue with their pre decided schedule and commitments. That would be a befitting tribute to Hira ba”. — IANS
