JEDDAH — The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the recent recurring acts of desecration of the Holy Quran, carried out by extremists in Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark, reports Wam.
During an open-ended Extraordinary Meeting held by the OIC Executive Committee at its headquarters in Jeddah for this purpose, the OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, reiterated his dismay at the provocative acts carried out by far-right activists, emphasising that such actions are criminal acts perpetrated with the main intention of targeting Muslims, breaching the sanctity of their religion, as well as their values, and sacred symbols.
He said that relevant governments must take strict counter-measures, especially since such provocations have been committed repeatedly by far-right extremists in their countries.
The OIC Secretary-General stated that the intentional act of desecrating the Holy Quran and insulting the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) must not be seen as just an ordinary incident of Islamophobia, but as a direct insult to the entire Muslim population. Taha called on all stakeholders to take firm action to ensure that the similar provocations do not reoccur in the future.
