Noted Hyderabad Lawyer Moizuddin Killed in Hit-and-Run Case; Family Alleges Murder

The incident has triggered concern within the legal fraternity, with several advocates demanding swift action and enhanced protection for lawyers handling sensitive matters.

HYDERABAD — Senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, known for handling sensitive cases related to Waqf properties, was killed after being hit by an SUV outside his residence in Hyderabad on Saturday, in what his family alleges was a pre-planned attack.

Moizuddin, 63, was about to get into his car when a Mahindra Scorpio rammed into him near his home in the Masab Tank area.

CCTV footage of the incident purportedly shows the vehicle approaching from behind and suddenly veering towards the advocate before crashing into him, throwing him nearly 15–20 feet. The manner of the collision has raised suspicions about whether it was deliberate.

Local residents rushed Moizuddin to a private hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with severe injuries and heavy bleeding. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has sparked allegations of foul play from the family, who claim Moizuddin had faced multiple threats due to his legal work. He had been representing cases involving alleged illegal occupation and privatisation of Waqf properties.

“This is the sixth attack on my father. For decades, he fought for minorities and the downtrodden, and against the privatisation of public and Waqf properties,” said his son, Mohammad Farhan, who is also an advocate.

Farhan alleged that two individuals — Mahboob Alam Khan and Mujahed Alam Khan — were responsible for his father’s death, claiming Moizuddin had been pursuing a case against them over alleged encroachment of Waqf land.

“They had threatened to kill us earlier and had also attacked our offices,” he said, urging the state government to provide protection to the family.

Fellow lawyers and family members also said Moizuddin had received threats in the past in connection with his cases.

Police have registered a hit-and-run case and formed four teams to trace the vehicle and identify those involved. Officials said all angles, including the possibility of a targeted attack, are being investigated.
