NEET Scam: Youth Congress Alleges BJP Links, Seeks Minister’s Resignation

The organisation claims that coaching institutes managed by relatives and associates of BJP leaders had benefited from the scam

NEW DELHI — Escalating its attack on the Narendra Modi government over the recurring NEET paper leak controversy, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of presiding over a “corrupt and compromised” examination system. It also claimed that coaching institutes managed by relatives and associates of BJP leaders had benefited from the scam.

The Youth Congress staged a protest in the national capital against the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The activists of the youth wing tried to burn the effigy of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The attempt was foiled by the Delhi police and the protestors were stopped from marching towards the education ministry office.

Led by Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress President Akshay Lakra, protesters marched from the Youth Congress office towards Raisina Road before being stopped.

Addressing demonstrators, Lakra launched a sharp attack on the Modi government, claiming that repeated paper leaks had shattered students’ faith in the country’s examination system.

“Prime Minister Modi claims to stop wars between nations, but he cannot stop paper leaks in the country,” Lakra said. “Since the creation of the NTA, examination leaks have become routine, merit has come under question, and even courts have repeatedly intervened.”

He alleged that the BJP had institutionalised a system that favoured the rich and politically connected while disadvantaging students from poor and middle-class families.

“Today, the BJP has created such a corrupt system that children of the wealthy will pass, secure seats and jobs, while deserving students from ordinary families are pushed into despair,” he charged.

The Youth Congress leader further alleged that names linked to “senior BJP leaders and their relatives” involved in the coaching industry had surfaced in connection with the NEET paper leak scandal, though he did not provide specific names or documentary evidence.

Lakra argued that merely cancelling examinations was not a solution and pointed to repeated leaks over the past decade as evidence of systemic failure.

“Eighty-nine examination papers have allegedly leaked in the last ten years, with the NEET examination itself leaked four times, forcing re-examinations on 48 occasions,” he said, adding that the situation had generated widespread anger and anxiety among students.

Demanding accountability, the Youth Congress called for the immediate resignation of Pradhan and sought compensation for students affected by the controversy.

The organisation also demanded the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the NEET paper leak allegations and called for the National Testing Agency to be scrapped altogether.

“The NTA has completely failed in its responsibility to conduct fair examinations,” Lakra said. “The government should hand over the responsibility of conducting examinations to another independent government body.”

Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib also criticised the Centre, calling the NEET paper leak “a major issue” and holding the BJP government responsible for the “collapse of credibility” in the examination system.

Several Youth Congress leaders and workers, including National Secretaries Hevaran Kansana and Ehsan Ahmed, participated in the demonstration.
