NEW DELHI — The death of 17-year-old Muskaan Khan Sharma remains shrouded in mystery, with her family alleging that her husband, Abhishek Sharma, killed her.

Muskaan was found unconscious by her mother near an e-rickshaw outside her maternal home in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, hours after Abhishek allegedly visited the house and assaulted her.

The incident occurred Tuesday night in Mangadpura village under Dehat police station limits, according to media reports on Thursday. Police took custody of Muskaan’s body and conducted a post-mortem examination by a panel of doctors on Wednesday. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of her death.

Marriage and Alleged Abuse

According to Muskaan’s family, she married 35-year-old Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Ghasipura under Amayan police station, around three months ago. They said it was a love marriage solemnised at the Ardhanareshwar temple near Gauri Sarovar, a report in The Observer Post said.

The family alleged that problems began soon after marriage, with Muskaan subjected to physical abuse. Her mother, Sitara Khan, said she brought Muskaan back to her maternal home about a month ago after learning of disputes and domestic violence.

The family claimed tensions continued even after Muskaan returned home.

Muskaan’s relatives allege that Abhishek arrived at the Mangadpura house on Tuesday night, carrying a pistol and called Muskaan outside. They allege he assaulted her and used her dupatta to strangle her near the e-rickshaw parked outside.

Muskaan’s brother, Gulfan Khan, claimed Abhishek threatened him with a weapon, preventing him from intervening. The family further alleged that the accused fled after the incident and warned them not to inform anyone.

After finding Muskaan unconscious, the family called emergency services. Dial-112 personnel and local police reached the spot. Muskaan was taken for medical examination but could not be saved.

Police said they are probing the allegations and awaiting the post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death. Officials said legal action will follow based on evidence collected during the investigation.
