Muslims Wear Black Bands During Juma Namaz in Silent Protest Against Waqf Bill

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Thursday appealed to all Muslims in the country to wear a black armband while coming to the mosque on Jumatul Vida as the expression of grief and protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

NEW DELHI — A large number of Muslims offered the namaz of Jumatul Vida (the last Friday of Ramadan) wearing black armbands in several cities of India to register their silent protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill on the call of the All-India Muslim Personal Board (AIMPLB).

Earlier, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) appealed to all Muslims in the country to wear a black armband while coming to the mosque on Jumatul Vida as a silent and peaceful expression of grief and protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

“It is the responsibility of every Muslim in the country to strongly oppose this Waqf Amendment Bill,” said AIMPLB. The Muslim group also urged the protesters to post photos and videos of black armband with this hashtag on social media especially X (Twitter) as a sign of protest.

A video posted by the news agency ANI shows that AIMIM chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi along with other worshippers wore black band on his arm supporting the call given by AIMPLB.

Prominent factchecker and social media influencer Mohammed Zubair also posted his photos wearing the black armband during Friday prayers to register his protest. He also posted photos of other worshippers who wore the black band.

Zubair wrote “Bengaluru: A silent black-band Protest to oppose Waqf Amendment bill during Jumu’atul-Wida. Yesterday, All India Muslim Personal Law Board had urged Muslims across the country to wear black armbands on Jumu’atul-Wida (Alvid Jumma), the last Friday of Ramzan, to protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024”.

From Karnataka MLA Roshan Baig also posted his photos of offering namaz wearing black armband.

“Performed Prayers with my near and dear one’s of our community during Laylat-Al Qadr at Khadriya Mosque & Jumatul Vida : After Namaz-e-Jumma at Jumma Masjid, wearing a black band, reflects on shared values and stands in symbolic protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill,” wrote Baig.

Jamaat-e-Ilsami Hind (JIH) chief Saadatullah Hussaini also posted his picture wearing the black armband on his social media accounts to protest against the Waqf bill.

Maulana Fazlurahim Mujaddidi, who is the general secretary of the Board, thanked all Muslims for supporting the call given by the Board regarding the black band protest against the Waqf bill.

“Today, on the last Friday of Ramadan, i.e. Juma-tul-Vida, crores of Indian Muslims tied black bands on their hands and registered peaceful protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. Muslims REJECT this bill! We demand the government to immediately withdraw this unconstitutional Waqf Amendment Bill!,” he said.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has been holding protests in Delhi, Patna, Vijaywada and other cities to oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
