Law and order situation, sanitation rules for sacrificial waste disposal discussed during peace committee coordination meetings

LUCKNOW — The Uttar Pradesh administration has issued strict guidelines ahead of Eid Al-Adha (Bakrid), reinforcing that prayers will not be allowed on public roads under any circumstances. Officials have stated that if an Eidgah reaches its capacity, worshippers must use nearby mosques instead of offering prayers outside or on the streets.

The directive comes as district administrations across the state held peace committee meetings to ensure that the festival is observed in a peaceful and orderly manner. Senior officials have emphasised that law and order will be strictly maintained, and all communities are expected to follow the instructions issued by the administration.

In a meeting held in Jhansi at the City Kotwali premises under the chairmanship of the Additional District Magistrate (Administration), detailed discussions were conducted with religious leaders, representatives of social organisations and administrative officers. The focus of the meeting remained on maintaining communal harmony and ensuring smooth arrangements during Bakrid.

Authorities clearly stated that even if space inside an Eidgah becomes insufficient, worshippers should proceed to nearby mosques rather than gathering on roads or outside religious premises. Officials reiterated that offering prayers on roads will not be permitted under any situation.

During the meeting, concerns were also raised regarding the disposal of animal remains after sacrifices. Representatives of organisations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, highlighted the issue of waste being left in open areas. In response, the administration instructed that remains and blood after sacrifice must not be dumped on roads, drains or public spaces, and should instead be properly packed and handed over to municipal vehicles for safe disposal.

Officials warned that improper disposal of remains could lead to stray animals carrying them into public spaces, potentially creating disorder and tension. Authorities appealed to citizens to maintain cleanliness and sensitivity during the festival period.

Muslim community representatives also raised concerns related to basic civic facilities during Bakrid, including electricity, water supply and sanitation arrangements. Officials assured that necessary instructions have been issued to the municipal corporation, electricity department and water supply authorities to ensure uninterrupted services during the festival.

Police officials also reiterated the restrictions on public prayers. Circle Officer (City) Lakshmikant Gautam stated that prayers will not be permitted outside mosques or Eidgahs or on public roads. He stressed that all communities must adhere to administrative directions to ensure that Bakrid is observed peacefully and in a harmonious environment across the state.
