Violence leaves eight people injured and heightens tensions in the locality
NEW DELHI — A 21-year-old Muslim man, identified as Sultan Iqbalbhai Shaikh, died while undergoing treatment after a violent clash between two groups in Dakor town of Gujarat’s Kheda district on the night of October 14.
The incident, which took place near Satyam Society in the Navi Nagari area while Navratri celebrations were underway, left eight people injured and heightened tensions in the locality.
According to police officials, the confrontation reportedly began with an argument over voting patterns in the previous municipal elections, particularly over support for an independent candidate. What started as a verbal dispute soon escalated into a violent confrontation, with sharp-edged weapons allegedly used during the clash.
Eight people sustained injuries in the violence, including five from one group and three from the other. The injured were initially taken to the Dakor sub-district hospital for treatment. Those requiring further medical care were shifted to Nadiad Civil Hospital.
Sultan, one of the injured, later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Following the incident, senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police, reached the area along with teams from the Special Operations Group and the Local Crime Branch. Security was strengthened in the locality as authorities moved to contain tensions and prevent further violence.
According to Kheda Superintendent of Police Vijay Patel, action has been taken against 16 people in connection with the case, with eight suspects detained from each side. Legal proceedings, including murder-related charges, have been initiated against those involved.
Netizens have reacted to the incident, with users expressing anger and concern over the death of the 21-year-old man and demanding action against the culprits.
One user, reacting to the incident on X, wrote, “Without killing innocent people, Hindus do not celebrate any festival, check how many people killed during their every festival, u will be shocked.”
The situation remains tense in the locality as investigations continue.
The police have yet to publicly establish the full sequence of events leading to the fatal confrontation, including the precise roles of those involved.
